April’s Birthstone – Diamonds are of course
the symbol of everlasting love.
They are revered by lovers and are according to Marilyn Munroe,”a girl’s best
friend”. The fact that "Diamonds are forever" was reiterated in Shirley
Bassey’s song of the same name. These days diamonds are most often associated
with engagement rings but throughout history they have meant a lot more than
that.
Diamonds are cherished for their brilliance, elegance,
purity and toughness and are considered to be magical stones of great power. Ancient
Greeks wore diamonds into battle on their shields to give them courage. In India diamonds
were once considered to be invincible stones of virtue and justice, symbolizing
personal qualities such as wisdom, enlightenment, purity and clarity. They give
the wearer power, enhance relationships, increase inner strength, and help to
preserve peace.
Of all stones, diamonds have the most remarkable history,
and are marked by stories of fame, misfortune and murder. Diamonds are said to
be the king of all gems, the hardiest of all precious gems known. In by gone periods
diamonds were only to be had by kings, royals and wealthy nobles. In Sanskrit, the diamond is called vajra,
which means lightning, and in Hindu mythology, vajra was the weapon of Indra,
the king of gods.
Diamonds grant protection to the wearer and have strong healing
powers especially related to diseases of the brain and pituitary glands. They
were reputed to draw out toxins and were once used as a remedy for poison. From
a metaphysical point of view, because the diamond is the hardest and the purest
of all the gemstones, it is thought to help to clear the mind and eradicate
negative thoughts. Its metaphysical properties provide balance,
clarity and abundance.
Ranging from sparkling colorless diamonds through to fancy-colored
diamonds in faint to vivid hues of yellow, red, pink, blue, and green, they are
all natural, rare and truly exotic gems of the earth.
April’s birthstone - diamonds are the perfect gift for a
loved one. And diamonds don’t have to be just in the form of a diamond engagementring. Both men and women love diamond necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Lucky for
those born in April who can claim diamonds to be their birthstones.
She who from April
dates her years,
Diamonds shall wear, lest bitter tears
For vain repentance flow; this stone,
Emblem of innocence, is known
